Rishita Das & Rushda Hakim,
Principal Designers, Design Office.

Some things are easier said than done, but these designers have gone above and beyond to produce artistically luxurious design with an effortless chic look.
Rishita Das & Rushda Hakim, Principal Designers of Design Office, share their inspiration and creative process in an exclusive interview with CW Interiors.

Q: Tell us about your journey as designers. Where did you start from?
Rushda and I were batch mates in design school after which we worked under different architects for two years. We came together to start Design Office on 23rd October 2010. At the age of 22 we bagged our first project which was a 4,000 sq ft luxurious residential space.

Q: What are your favourite pieces of architecture and design?
We love the Stahl House in Los Angeles by Pierre Koenig, which is an iconic representation of modern architecture. It offers an eventide panoramic view of the city with its floorto- ceiling glass walls.

Q: Where does your inspiration come from?
Inspiration can literally come from anywhere, be it family, music, or a crack in the sidewalk. There are no restraints as to what someone can draw from to turn a mere thought into reality. We are inspired by traveling, meeting people, and by working with younger people and drawing inspiration from them. Minimalism is our personal style. We then mix it with the client’s personality to create a space.

Q: Any favourite materials you love to work with? We love working with concrete! The textures and finishes are something we love to experiment with…

Q: Who are your favourite designers and architects?
Yabu Pushelberg and Nendo have pepetually been our design guru that we look up to.

Q: Where do you see the design space heading towards?
Much of today’s design trends are becoming more focused on personalisation and less on design. People are now looking at creating a level of style that speaks more about their personality
