Festival des Architectures Vives is an architectural path for the general public, who can discover or rediscover the historical landmarks of the city of Montpellier, South France. The event invites visitors to go in contact this rich heritage by offering installations scattered around the city. In Montpellier, it takes place in the historic town and offers a path connecting mansions and courtyards, mostly private, that are usually not visible to visitors.
Each installation created by architects teams allows highlighting the work of a younger generation which is inventing, experimenting and exploring the new design of our environment fields. Since 2006, the FAV is organised annually by the association Champ Libre, chaired by Jacques Brion and Elodie Nourrigat, architects in Montpellier. The access is completely free and open to all. The theme for 2017 is emotion.
A unique collaboration is with the festival of Concéntrico that was created by Javier Peña Ibañez who has participated to the FAV in 2012. In 2015 he created the first edition of Concéntrico in Logroño, in Spain. A team from Concéntrico will create an installation in Montpellier for the Festival. The team who represented the FAV was composed of Samuel Berthomeau and Lucie Monthes who had participated to the FAV in 2012 and from Michael Martins Afonso who had participated to the FAV in 2016.
Also, each year an university is invited so as to participate in the Festival. For this 12th edition, the Higher Technical School of Architecture of the University of the Basque Country in San Sebastián will realise an installation.
