Idea Forum

Idea Forum

A platform where design professionals meet & discuss about interior trends and furniture design is not a dream anymore! Often we are unable to connect with the fraternity in large settings, conferences and trade fairs. This is why CW interiors along with DezignGenie.com organized the first ever Idea Forum –A Panel Discussion on The Confluence of Indian & International Design, hosted by ICasa Furniture on the 8th of March, 2016 at the host’s exquisite showroom at Raghuvanshi Mills. The format is intimate—not more than 40 people, who can be inspired and connect with industry stalwarts on relevant topics. The first Idea Forum involved an esteemed panel of speakers – Neemesh Shah, Founder of KNS Architects, Nina Puri  & Naushir DeVitre, Director of Talati & Panthaky Associated along with Domenico Mula, Art Director & CEO of the Italian furniture brand, Dom Edizioni.

The panel discussion was an amalgamation of different school of thoughts aligned in the same direction—Design. Said Domenico Mula in Italian (and translated here), “I love Indian tastes. It is very important for me to match my furniture to the tastefulness and design of the Indian people. Totally agree that my furniture has to be high level of design and comfort, but is also totally customizable to tastes of the market.”  Rather than going to trade fairs, which is extremely confusing for buyers, it is beneficial to have international brands enter the Indian market where touch and feel is possible. Touch and feel of the product is of utmost significance in the Indian Market and hence it gravitates more towards customization. Customized furniture is always preferred to set pieces. Naushir DeVitre mentioned here that the look and comfort comes first, and then comes the price point for the customer. Speaking of the latest trends of 2016, it was cited that space saving furniture is making waves in Mumbai, but in a city like Delhi doesn’t hold that much importance because they have a lot more space to work with. Minimalistic designs are more popular in Mumbai than in Delhi, and the climatic differences also bring a change in the taste of furniture design in the cities.
