The Design & Build workshop will introduce participants to the art of building with natural materials like bamboo and earth using both traditional knowledge and modern techniques along with understanding its environmental impacts. The main objective of PYHT and TIC is to promote the use of such natural materials by engaging and collaborating with local artisans for capacity building and information dissemination.
METHOD OF FACILITATION: Practice and theory on various aspects of building with bamboo and earth through interactive sessions between facilitators and peers. We will be working hands-on through the day in the open.
FACILITATORS: Shahveer Irani & Areen Attari from PYHT, which is an architecture firm based in Mumbai that has been designing and building sustainable structures and conducting workshops on natural materials. Sankalpa, Nikhil Patel & Manu Narenderan from TIC, who are a group of architects and engineers based in Ahmedabad that has been practising sustainable architecture and construction and have facilitated academic workshops on natural construction.
VENUE: Located in the Sayadhri range of South Maharashtra, Chattri farm is an orchard surrounded by natural landscape and beauty. The site allows an escape from the chaos of busy urban lives.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: Suitable for individuals interested in sustainable lifestyle development through the natural building. This workshop is recommended for architecture students, professionals, artists, artisans, and people looking to pursue sustainable architecture.
